Q: What is the Audition Process?
A: The Process can be divided into two parts:
1. Your Solo
* The form you fill out prior to entering (who you are, how you can be
reached, other information)
* Your singing and stage-presence skills
* Your pitch
* Your voice range
If we like your solo performance, we might call you back!
2. Callbacks
* How well you learn a Rhythm Method song
* How well you blend with the group
* How well you sound alone with the group
Q: Is the Process the same for all
of the groups?
A: Not entirely the same, but close. Every group has their own twist on
the process based on their particular need.
Q: What kind of a song should I pick?
A: Every voice is different. Certain qualities can be shown better with
songs that emphasize them. You will not be admitted to the Rhythm Method
based only on your solo. Callbacks however, are based on your initial
performance. Your solo is a chance to showcase why you should be in
the
group. Please pick a song you enjoy to sing.
Q: Am I more likely to get in if I
am a(n) (alto, bass, soprano, tenor, chimpanzee, guy, girl, freshman,
sophomore,
junior, senior, grad student)?
A: Above all of these qualities are two factors. How well you sing in
the a cappella style and what the group needs. We do not primarily
discriminate
on any of these factors unless blatantly stated on the audition posters.
There have been audition periods where we have stated "guys only;" if
you
don't happen to be a guy, then during those periods you will
not get in, no matter how spectacular you are.
Q: Can I try out for more than one A Cappella
group?
A: Yes, you can try out for as many groups as you would like, but you
can only get into one. Please remember it is possible that you may need
to attend two callbacks that are running at the same time. This slows
down the
audition
process.
If more than one group selects you you will
be notified by phone once a decision is reached.
Q: What if I don't make the final cut,
does that mean I'll be wasting my time the next audition?
A: No. Certainly not. Remember that one of the factors is the group's
particular needs for that semester. Our needs change with every audition.
Many past and current members of Rhythm Method auditioned one, two...even
three times! Please try again...people improve, and the needs of the
group change.
Q: When are auditions?
A: Typically, Rhythm Method holds auditions the morning following the
Dollar Show, as well as the day after our semester show. Occasionally,
we will also hold extra auditions depending upon certain needs of the group at a given time. This information will always be
posted in Watters Lobby, as well as around campus.
Q: Where can I sign-up?
A: Within days of auditions a signup sheet will be placed in Watters Lobby.
